June 7, 2008 · Leave a Comment

You’ve all seen those cheesy “buy me coffee” or “tip jar” on blogs…and some of you actually contribute! Well, Thank You for all of you who have done this-I might suggest that you contribute to Steve’s “buy me a watch fund”.

As fate would have it I found just the watch (es) I need thanks to the Robb Report. They are featuring three watch that I can’t imagine living without. They are:

Jules Audemars chrono Tourbillon and Minute Repeater Skeleton

Jules Audemars Perpetual Calendar and Minute Repeater Skeleton

Jules Audemars Grand Complication Skeleton

Buy this for SteveRead this tantalizing description from The Robb Report and then go and immediately contribute, generously and often to the “buy Steve a Watch Fund” :-)

Legendary watchmaker Audemars Piguet designed a one-of-a-kind three piece set for the Robb Report Limited Edition Series. Individually, each piece makes a powerful aesthetic and technical statement, but the three combined assume an even greater significance to the discerning collector. All three watches relate to one another as each is a skeleton, has a minute repeater, and is made of titanium. A minute repeater—the mechanism that strikes the hour, quarter hour, and minute—is active, meaning you can choose to engage or disengage the hammer mechanism inside the watch. The use of titanium in this Robb Report Limited Edition Series set enhances the minute repeater because it gives off a clearer, more resonant and even tone than do other precious metals, such as platinum and gold. The three-piece Collector’s Set will come in an exclusive Robb Report case, made from Macassar ebony and Nappa leather, designed especially for the Limited Edition Series.

Jules Audemars Chrono Tourbillon and Minute Repeater Skeleton
The Jules Audemars Chrono Tourbillon and Minute Repeater Skeleton is an amazing combination of complications with a tourbillon that features the smallest screw ever made, at 0.3 mm. The timepiece’s repeater strikes, on demand, hours, quarter hours & minutes – transcribing time that we see, into time that we hear. This horological work of art takes seven months to complete and comes with a titanium case and sapphire crystal back, bound in a large-grain alligator strap with a double-blade deployment clasp.

Jules Audemars Perpetual Calendar and Minute Repeater Skeleton
The Jules Audemars Perpetual Calendar and Minute Repeater Skeleton recalls Audemars’ first wristwatch with a repeater. A historic base movement powers the automatic quantum perpetual calendar with astronomical moon indication. The complication’s openwork dial exposes the function and integration of the perpetual calendar, which calibrates the day of the week to the date, month, phase within the four year leap-year cycle, with no manual adjustment required until the year 2100. This timepiece’s repeater strikes, on demand, hours, quarter hours & minutes and is also cased in titanium with a sapphire back.

Jules Audemars Grand Complication Skeleton
The Jules Audemars Grand Complication Skeleton hits all the marks of rarity with a perpetual calendar indicating the day, the date, the week, the moon phases, the month, and the leap years; minute repeater; split-second chronograph; and small seconds at 9 o’clock. It takes 12 months to build this impressive timepiece that is cased in titanium with an AP folding clasp and transparent sapphire case back. Only four watchmakers at Audemars Piguet have the technical expertise to assemble the 654 parts of a Grand Complication.

While you’re at it be sure and pick up a few of the exquisite automatic watch winders.

PS If you have to ask how much these watches cost….just keep contributing!!
